Évora - Montemor-o-Novo - Santiago do Escoural Allotment with an approved project for the urbanization of houses with a maximum total area of 264m2 each house, in a total of 10 lots with areas between 608m2 and 387m2. The villas can have up to two floors and an annex. Santiago do Escoural was born between 1423 and 1427, its founder was the Constable Knight D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, who built the first house and a chapel on his lands, which belonged to the order of Santiago. That was probably why they called him Santiago. Official censuses up to 1828 indicate that its population was 40 dwellings and 112 inhabitants. By 1836 it had more than 1,200 inhabitants. Later they added the name (of the Escoural), taking this idea from the abrasions of the ores, discovered in its surroundings. It is protected by the Serra do Monfurado, with all the agglomeration of rare species on the verge of extinction. Its heritage is the cave with parietal art. From Neanderthal Man from the Middle Palaeolithic (about 50,000 years ago) to the Late Neolithic (Homo Sapiens Sapiens), discovered in 1960, it is unique to Europe. In the Escoural there is also the Interpretive Center of the Grotto, the Mother Church, the Dolmen of Our Lady of Livramento, the Chapel of St. John the Baptist and St. Brissos, the Convent of Our Lady of the Castle of the infernal graves of Monte Furado, Quinta da Torre do Carvalhal and Quinta de Nossa Senhora do Rosário. It is a land with a very strong history and traditions, with an affable population and with the greatest advantage of being close to the city of Évora and 40 minutes from Lisbon.
