In 1836, the municipality of Muge was extinguished, which was initially integrated into the municipality of Almeirim and later incorporated into the municipality of Salvaterra de Magos. It is through the junction of these two counties: Muge and Salvaterra de Magos that the historical genesis of our county is found. The Municipality of Salvaterra de Magos has a land area of 244,489 km². It is geographically located on the left bank of the Tagus River, bordered to the northwest by the municipalities of Azambuja and Cartaxo, to the southwest by the municipality of Benavente, to the south by the municipality of Coruche and to the north by the municipality of Almeirim. Currently, the municipality of Salvaterra de Magos is composed of four parishes:

- Muge
- Union of Parishes of Glória do Ribatejo and Granho
